Health Trends to Avoid in 2022

Like most people, you may have gone through the motions and re-evaluated how you want things to go in your life as 2021 began. You’ve undoubtedly made some new resolutions and pledged to do a few things here and there. It could be about your career, your relationships, or the most popular topic: your health, specifically weight loss.

It’s fascinating to see how the health industry continues to come up with new techniques to assist more people in maintaining their weight loss. Weight reduction trends are evolving, allowing more people to fall in love with food and change their minds about it. We live in a time where starvation is no longer a viable option for weight loss. However, eating the right macros and micros provides health benefits and body fuel. But in the process, we tend to lose focus with fad diets and whatnot.

Losing weight and keeping it off can be a difficult and stressful undertaking without the right expertise and personal guidance on your side. As New Jersey’s partner in weight loss guidance, we have compiled a list of weight-loss fads to be wary of in 2022.

The Keto Diet

If you’ve been weighing the pros and cons of the ketogenic diet, one of the most fiercely debated eating plans, a new review suggests the downsides may eclipse the benefits.

The analysis, published in the July 2021 issue of Frontiers in Nutrition, examines the potential long-term risks of the keto diet, which is a very low-carb, high-fat style of eating. People on this restrictive diet typically get 70 to 80 percent of their daily calories from fat, 5 to 10 percent from carbohydrates, and 10 to 20 percent from protein

Additionally, the keto diets raise levels of LDL cholesterol (commonly known as “bad” cholesterol) for many people — when, typically, you would expect to see those levels drop when you lose weight. In a six-month study that the review cites, 30 percent of participants experienced LDL cholesterol increases greater than 10 percent.

Finally, keto diets high in protein may also cause kidney stones, plus hasten kidney disease in those with kidney disease, the review found. Eating too many animal proteins caused the kidney to work overtime and causes kidney stones at a higher rate.

The Dukan Diet

Dukan diet is a diet plan which includes the consumption of lean protein along with a certain portion of oat bran over a required period. You are not allowed to consume any type of carbohydrates and this is where it comes as a bit more challenging for everyone around.

This diet was invented by French nutritionist and practitioner Pierre Dukan who claimed it as the best diet plan for anyone who is on a weight loss diet regimen. Moreover, the Dukan diet consists of four stages which are divided as follows: The Attack Phase, The Cruise Phase, The Consolidation Phase, and The Stabilization Phase.

Once you will get started with a Dukan diet (the attack phase to be specific), you may experience severe irregular bowel movements in the process. This can be caused by the high consumption of lean meat proteins. Although you can control them by ensuring a daily intake of oat bran in your diet, additionally health issues are quite unavoidable.

You will also face a lack of antioxidants in the body initially which is caused by the absence of items like fresh fruits, veggies and wholesome grains. This will then lead to issues like indigestion and constipation. Also, lack of antioxidants in the body for a longer period can result in severe health conditions like cancer, heart issues, cataract and even premature aging.

Sleep Trackers

Wearable sleep trackers have been on the market for the past decade or so, but recently, there’s been a renewed interest in healthy sleeping habits to maintain a healthy weight. While good sleep does promote healthy weight, trackers are not also accurate. These wearable devices track your sleep patterns by measuring heart rate and movement. One study found that while these devices were good at determining the duration of sleep, they weren’t particularly correct when it came to time spent in the different sleep stages (REM, deep sleep, etc.).

Save money and skip the fitness tracker. Massage therapy is a solid, and medication-free alternative that has helped many individuals conquer sleep deprivation. Since melatonin affects the other phase of a person’s circadian cadence, a characteristic method of boosting serotonin is a constructive rest prompting choice.
